A made-up still-life
I was really really touched by a sad cat lying on the gangboard when we were stopping in rainy Uglich. Never I will be able to forget her. Strangely enough, it seemed as if the cat was waiting for someone, like a dog waits for a person it loves (like dog Monday waited for Jem "In Rilla of Ingleside". Maybe, once it will turn into a story of a cat's love and loalty...)The words run: "HELP HOMELESS CATS"

Oh, thank you! I was missing your drawings so much.. They are all lovely, including the bird on the previous post.
And how was that criuse like? Did you enjoy it?
It was really lovely to see all those places after a break of 7 or, with some of the towns, more years! Of course you could see some changes in the towns and along the river (new houses built etc), but all in all it was a very special feel. The weather wasn't good at all, I had to pull on whatever warm clothes I had with me, and we never reached our final destination and had to change our route because of the storm, but I enjoyed everything all the same.
We've been to some very good museums and saw lots of beautiful architecture. I'll try to share the photos before I leave (they are in the laptop and I am typing from the large computer).

I did want to ask you a question. I've studied some German and really don't like the readers that are made especially for learners. They're so generic and uninteresting. Do you have any suggestions of real books, maybe for the pre-teen to teenager age range, that I may be able to practice reading?
I know you love books and different languages so I thought you'd be a good person to ask. I hope you don't mind.

You see how bad my German is. I'm not sure I read the bar at the top of the page correctly. I thought it said '9 days until I go to Vienna.' Just realized I may be wrong. Quite embarrassing! Oh well. I still would like to learn.

You were right, the counter said that there was a certain number of days till I go to Vienna. Now it's some days I am back (oh, wasn't it a lovely trip!). But I guess I should delete the counters now since they started counting back,and the text remains the same lol!
Speaking about books, sure, here's a list from the top of my head:
1) First of all, try "Das doppelte Lottchen" by Erich Kaestner, if you haven't read it already it's a very popular children's book about two identically-looking girls who discover they are twins and work out a plan to bring their separated parents together. It's very easy to read and at the same time has an interesting story and well-depicted characters. "Emil und die Detective" wasn't bad either though I preferred the twins' story :) Erich Kaestner wrote many other good books, but I did not read anything else. Maybe, you'll find something further to you liking.
2) there are two good children's books that are much fun, written by Elke Kahlert. they are "Das verkaufte Kind" which touches upon child-parent relationships and is written humorously at the same time. The next one is "Vorsicht, Gespenster!" about eight ghoasts living in a castle and making friends with a girl. Also great.
3) Miriam Pressler wrote young adult books that touched upon serious themes. They are hardly uplifting reading but I like it that she is often psycologically honest. I read "Bitterschokolade", "DieZit der schlafenden Hunden" and a half of "Novemberkatzen" but did not finish the latter because of exams.
4) I liked "Romy auf der Suche" by Brigitte Blobel very much. In this book Romy, a 15 year old girl, dicovers to her surprise that her father from whom her mum had separated since she was a baby, is a famous photographer in Italy and she decides to go and see him to get to know him. Very well written and does not leave a heavy feeling like Miriam Pressler's books.
5)"Der Trotzkopf" is a classics, written in the middle of the 19th c, and tells a story of 15 y.o. Ilse, who's sent to a boarding school against her will. But she learns to like it and makes friends. Deals with eternal themes like friendship, school, children-parents relationship, growing up so still appealing. If you like books for girls like "Little Women" or "Anne of Gren Gables" it's you cup of tea. There was also a series made in the 1980s with a very pretty Ilse
6) I read this books in Russian translation when a child, but I think you'd enjoy them if you find them in German: "Die kleine Hexe", "Der kleine Wasserman" and "Das kleine Gespenst" by Otfried Preussler, they are realy cute stories.
7) I also read a beauiful story by Michael Ende. "Momo" is a philosophical tale about the concept of time, makes one think. I heard many times that "The Neverending story" - "Di unendliche Geschichte" is even better, but haven't yet found time to concentrate properly.
8) I thought you if have already read "The Inkheart" in English, you might try it in the German original now, knowing the story might help. This book has long been on my reading list, but the problem is the same as with "The neverending story"!
9) "Bastian" by Barbara Novak that we read in the 4th year in class, was much fun and had interesting characters.
Another good way to improve your German is to get hooked on German-speking musicals, especially those put up in Vienna, and especially "Elisabeth" (that's what happening to me now). By the way, they are having "REbecca" in Ronacher Thater in Vienna again since September. It's a pity I cannot be there and see it live but I bought the double CD of the whole performance to listen! Once I'm done with the book and the CD I must write a post about it here!

I agree Jemima is a cute nickname :-)I love Beatrix Potter and her drawings too and I think it will be very interesting to read her diaries or a bio. When I saw the film with Renee Zelwegger I thought I could relate to the herione in some aspects! And I cried a lot over that film though it rarely happens.
